What is the best way to release music in 2021 to take advantage of the way human attention works as well as how algorithms work. I break down:
► How human attention works when you employ consistent sustained promotion.
► How attention propensity works
► How Consistent Sustained Promotion make fans take you seriously.
► Why I recommend putting out a single screen video, then a lyric video then a music video.

Honestly I just been making 0.5-5 songs a day, releasing an album almost every week for the past 8 months or so and u are right about it being a fools game to constantly upload fr. I’m definitely going to add the techniques from these videos to my Spotify.
hey man:) thanks for the vid. can you explain a little more about ‘making stories’ about the song? cheers 🙂
Hey man, what exactly is a single screen video?
Freakin love your channel dude! Last year I was on it all the time then somehow I strayed, I'm back baby!!!
And, someone please tell me what a "single screen video" is?
Ok, liked and subbed. I'm listening to you now. You have my attention. LOL. I was about to release a new album through Distrokid, after hanging onto it for a long time. I have been mixing, polishing, learning, remixing, polish polish polish. I love my music, like any artist…I have learned to do pretty much EVERYTHING myself on this long journey. I write my own, play all the instruments, engineer, produce, blah, blah, blah…can't believe how much I've had to figure out. But, I can't say I am any good or have paid any real attention to the side of things that you have such expertise in. So, here I am, pausing, scratching my head just before I release a new album. Am I going about it the right way? So far, I'm the guy who thinks he creates great and meaningful music…but I don't do the other stuff. I have questions for you. Here's one, so far:
I have 15 songs ready to be released into the ether of the universe, like so many doves. Should I release just ONE instead? And do all these points you've mentioned and then release the NEXT one only after the efforts with that first one have been exhausted?
So no more dropping albums?
I wanna start by saying your videos are amazing. My question is what is single screen video?
what is a single screen video?
Good stuff. Diggin’ the channel and am gaining hella insight. Motivation as well. Salute.
Curious the thoughts of the community & Jesse C… The majority of the artists I love maintain a certain mystery to them, where for some I've chosen to unfollow them from social media so their content posting of themselves doesn't disrupt what I love of them to begin with. How do you maintain a constant self promotion while trying maintain that same thing for yourself as an artist?
This was very insightful. Thank you so much Jesse! We've got some work to do 😈
Great info. at each stage of release do you delete the previous releases for ex when you release the music video delete the lyric video
Its me , im that guy who releases 2.5 records a decade and wonders why i have a closet full of merch collecting dust.
Yeah I mean , I played w a guy who came up in the Punk Era and his project did not play there first show until 1981 being flown out to Europe , like nearly 7 years after the project started. When they played their first show on the west coast – they had rabid fans snaking around the venue selling out the venue. They used the zine scene / running abstract art ads and target videos to their advantage. They collabed with other like minded artists and did some outlandish things – for that day. Things are different now , but is it really? Also not all of us are going to be able to play live gigs. Tho Playing out is helpful, you still gotta get people ears perked. Thanks Jesse for helping connect the dots in the post modern era.. this is the new age.
We need a recap on this
11:36, What is a playthrough?
dont wanna sound thick but what is a single screen video?
we are a decades old sometimes famous record label..so this is not an individual artist. not tech savvy. sound gems records. trying to hire someone hip to all this.maybe ill find someone here on your coment section.
I’m so glad I stumbled upon your channel. What you say is facts!! I need to step it up!
Why are you just now showing up in my feeds and recommendations? This is some of the best information I've ever heard. I have made music but didn't understand the business side of it. I feel you have the information I need to move forward. Subscribed!
Not only has every video made my head spin with information, I also love that there’s never been an ask. You’re not tryna sell me anything after all these videos which means your heart is in the right place and you’re actually doing this bc you wanna help. Really appreciate that brotha. 💪🏽
I’m a jazz violinist with these techniques work with somebody who’s not a vocalist are songwriter? Have any evidence of that? Curious loving the videos
Thanks Jesse!
Dude, you oughtta at least pretend like you wrote your scripted text yourself, not some English or Journalism major freshman doing a side hustle on Fiverr. Try at least memorizing your god damn text in small parts to pass as your own instead of having your wandering eyeballs looking anywhere but the lense itself, where they should be at least for a split second.
What if I'm never doing exciting or eventful things? I literally sit in my house all day making electronic music and wank – I don't even finger drum so I can't be like the cool Lo-Fi HipHop kiddies
if you post music more then once every 6 weeks can this be bad for the algorithm
I really enjoyed this.
Hey there, and thanks again for posting all this great info! What are your thoughts on releasing a "making of" prior to video release?
My idea:
The making of single "X"
Single "X"video release
"X" Lyric video release
"X" Story telling on SM
Thoughts?
Good advice, but sounds a bit repetitive for the follower, also if you had a cool video wouldn't it be best to release it on day one to generate more interest and boost Spotify/streaming in order to maximise the algorithms, if your "killer" video is released 2 weeks after the release, won't that be too late to influence the algorithms?
Finally a real marketer. Jesus, where have you been all my life.
to all the small artists out there lets help eachother by supporting all the small music artists
I think this strategy is spot on and I’ve started taking steps to implement it but I wonder about the best way to manage all those videos on your YouTube channel. I mean, presumably you don’t want more than 1 live (as in active or current not performance) video per song on your channel at any one time as it could get quite cluttered and you would want to funnel any new fans towards the latest and most interesting version of the song video.
If you delete the previous versions you lose the views and comments from it so that’s probably not a good choice. Would you suggest taking the previous versions private or making them unlisted as you put up the new ones or just leave them all up there?
We can only submit to editorials once a month?
Thanks for this info Jesse. I’m about to release an Ep, should I release the project as a whole and applied this plan to promote each song separately very 3 weeks? Or just release each song one by one? Thanks again
Thank you so much this really helps
Love Your Videos Jesse. What music marketing companies would you recommend for promoting my new album coming out? Thanks
''I know my audience''. Actual LOLOLz! That was the most endearing insult to which my intelligence has ever been subject.
Does spotify allow to submit only one song per every 30-day? I'm new to this. A big help if you can inform me about it.
Sick content man
this is fire
I had to come back and say thank you for all of the info, Jesse. I've made notes and spreadsheets from your videos and I implemented a lot of your suggestions. And, the results have been amazing! Thanks so much, brother!!!
