Rich snippets are automatically added to SERPs for video results from YouTube. Is it recommended to add schema video markup onsite in order to get your page w/embedded video to rank in SERPs in addition to the YouTube result, or is this redundant?

Let's say I host my video on Youtube. Could you confirm if structured data and a video sitemap help Google choose the landing page of my website to be ranked instead of my youtube page?If so, how effective it is?
Also, if that is the case, how does Google make sure that the page includes video structured data or video sitemap referring to the video that belongs to them? ( That the youtube and the website are the same entity)
Also, if the goal of my video campaign is to drive more traffic to my website instead of brand awareness, some SEO suggest to use self-hosting instead of Youtube, do you agree with this point of view?

Schema.org Markup should be used. As +Ty Whalin states; use it on your websites where you post the video as well – that linked property and markup will help determine what your video is about and make it easier for Search Engines to understand what it's about.
