  1. Yo! Musinformation! I am a new artist working on releasing my first single. I have no content out there yet, can I still use VerseOne as a distributor?
Or would it be better to use another distribution service?

P.S. love your content! No one else does it like Musinformation does it! 💯

  2. Gonna give my honest feedback on Verseone as I got accepted into their service when the video was released,
First of all it seems like they have a migration tool to help uploading several songs for switching from other distros to them, but I can't seem to find it anywhere, I sent a message about it to support, they didn't answer it (sent about two weeks ago, no answer as of today)

So I tried to manually send my old releases to them in order to make the switch, and let me tell you if you're used to mainstream service like distrokid, you're gonna be lost, everything is soooo complicated, you have to write metadata twice for every track, as well as a bunch of stuff you don't even know what it's for, the interface is also way harder to apprehend than Distrokid

now it's been two weeks and I sent them Four tracks, one of them got approved but still isn't live, which is quite long compared to them saying they can get a track out in a few days

and for the other three tracks, they keep getting rejected by quality service because of the artwork not displaying my artist name, these tracks are already released on Spotify and I never had such an issue with a distributor, again I tried to contact support, no answers yet

Sorry for the long comment but I'm personally pretty disappointed by Verseone, Luckily there's nothing to pay upfront, so it just has been a huge waste of time for me, I hope the next artists watching this video will take a deeper look into the subject before trying to get approved and try to move their songs to them

  3. i've gotten accepted and submitted my first album through them. over all its good, however their communication is a bit weak. I had three already released singles thru another distributor, when i re-release it through verseone and when it goes thru its fingerprinting process it seems to detect that it is 'suspicious' and will process indefinitely which could've been the cause for my release to not be sent to quality control. I emailed them about this (make sure to list the UPC as they will just ignore it apparently??) and they just held back my release because of mismatched metadata, then proceeded to 'list' the tracks in question (which was nothing). i spent an hour figuring out which tracks was, only to realize that they just did something to the fingerprinting process so that the tracks weren't listed as suspicious.

TL;DR they didn't tell me what was wrong with my release, but they did fix my problem. communication is a bit lacking fr.

  4. Worst customer service of all time. I released a song threw them that said delivered, it still hasn't showed up on platforms now more than a week after the intended release date. I sent multiple emails to support and still have yet to hear back. I ended up messaging the facebook page and all I got back was a copy and paste response that they are new and have bugs. Quite rediculous.

  5. I used to use the orchard as my distributor and they told me they had all those features, in fact, they are a subsidiary of sony music so it was hard not to believe them. I was super excited to join them.
In my three years of contract with them and after growing my music project more than 30,000%. I was never able to take advantage of this options. I did promotions on my own, never got a proposal to work with another artist in the distributor, never got to an editorial playlist.
I'm really proud on the growth that i have achieved by my own, please don't expect that a distributor is going to make that for you.

  6. If THAT is "standard" then there needs to be a flip side where VO states in plain language what they are OBLIGATED TO DO ON THE ARTIST'S BEHALF. Because what is really truly historically "standard" with labels and big distributors is signing people, then deciding for whatever secret and unknowable reasons that the artist NOW isn't going to work out after we talked them into signing with us…and then tossing human beins overboard and out the window…So I'd want to know what exactly they are going to do for me…and I'd like the same amount of ink in that contract…same amount of writing and legalese and BS to be spent on MY PROMISES AND GUARANTEES as they spent getting me to sign my soul away in exchange for no actual physical day to day support.

Fair. Is. Fair. Prince knew this with Mo. Dylan knew this with Geffen. Smart people don't sign lopsided deals. My three cents. Cudos to Jesse for sticking with this very sticky stubject.

  7. I applied and got approved. Currently reviewing their contracts (publishing and distribution), but I'm worried signing will hurt any "real" publishing contracts in the future.

MY QUESTION(s): Have you looked at the contracts before making this video? If so, is everything "standard" and okay? If not so, would you like me to email you them to you ?

  8. Dude I get your being sponsored but just like everyone else, you haven’t tested it. You want the new artists to be Guinea pigs so if they mess up then you be the same person who told them they should’ve have done that when you did! Cmon you just be getting paid a lot to send us into something that may screw us and benefit you. We have more questions!

  9. What you mentioned about international reach really interests me cause post hardcore/emo, and rock music in general, is actually quite a big deal in Latin America. Alesana and My Chemical Romance are worshipped in Mexico, just to give you an idea, especially in Monterrey and Mexico City. I speak fluent Spanish and once I get these music videos done (literally everything I do is all me and it takes so much effing time and the low budget really doesn't help🥲), I really want to do Spanish versions of my songs at about the one year mark, or as the alternate version, and playing in Latin America would come with ease cause I can interact easier with the crowd. I'm really interested in that feature and may consider switching over once my Distrokid expires after seeing this.

Would you know if there's a way I can give priority to the Spanish versions of those songs in those countries? I can't tell you how many of my favorite artists I discovered Saturday mornings watching music videos on the Mexican channels

  10. I took a look at the website and it's full of typos and somewhat odd verbiage. I'd happily give up 15% if I knew they'd get my music on radio, SiriusXM, etc but I saw so many others make that mistake with AWAL. I'm sure some artists love AWAL but all I've heard is "they take 15% and do nothing and I can't get out!"

  11. @musformation, This sounds really interesting. They even offer a migration service to get you from another distro over to them. I'm with CD Baby and I haven't been too happy with them as of late. Now that I have more streams they aren't sending me much $$$. I think they take too big a cute of what all my streams are earning.

  12. Gonna have to look into VerseOne a bit more . Sounds very interesting. Been using Distrokid for so long now, not sure how all that would carry over and affect our social status across platforms .

  13. Do they pay the full $0.004 per stream? Cause Distrokid only been paying me $0.0025 on average!!!! I’m also seriously considering SoundOn just because it’s TikTok affiliated and you can pre-release the song on the platform
