  1. Thanks for the tips, Jesse! TikTok's definitely a game-changer for musicians. I've been experimenting with boost app social to spice up my TikTok presence. It's been a big help.

  2. Would it be safe to say as a independent artist if you have been creating quality music & music videos using newest dji drone technology & building your own visual album(music vids) that using distrovid would serve me well now. I'm iffy bc I was planning on going live spinning and then plugging my music to my own website where obviously I could keep my own analytics. What say you sir?

  3. For marketing and growing fans the way it is now is good but for the app it should be categorys to sort the content you wannt.

But how its now is awesome because anyone can see the new awesome song snippets you upload

  4. Very cool info!
I'm old school & need help finding my way on Tic Toc. They took off my music to my opening video to my show & I own the music. They left the video up with no sounds & I got no hits?

  5. Thanks for the great info. I started looking at tiktok in just the last couple weeks. I started noticing somethings that seemed promising. I hope that you will, in a future video, go over how to make sure our available music is linked to our tiktok accounts.

  6. I might give Tik-Tok a second chance. All I saw was the flaky stuff.. and I know they hardly pay anything at all to musicians for royalties. But if I guess I can use it for promotion, maybe that would be worth it for the free publicity.

  7. I think you're right. As someone in a rock band and over the age of 21, what I'd seen on TikTok when I briefly ventured on their in 2019 and 2020 did not resonate with me at all and frankly I saw zero value on being on the platform at that time (not to mention the morally questionable and narcissistic to the max content spewing out of there). But in past 6 months or so, I've noticed more and more musicians slowly tiptoeing on to it and having recently checked it out again after not opening the app for 8+ months, there has been a shift. It's still littered with awful, unfunny, vapid crap and morons, but as you said, it's user base is expanding and its content format evolving. Defo gonna try and figure out a way of using it that doesn't crush our souls and also connects with the right people.

  8. Wanted to let you know I bought your book! Your content has been extremely helpful in coming up with a release plan and building a marketing structure around releasing music. Thank you so much for the knowledge you give out!

  9. I’ve been taking my videos from instagram and posting them on tik tok. On insta, I was getting maybe 130 views or so, but on tik tok I’m getting more like 600. They’re not all full watches, but half the battle is just getting noticed

  10. I recently started on tiktok, and one of my songs ended up on a pretty big spotify playlist yesterday, during a "live" a guy was doing. Everything helps a small, self produced artist.

  11. Great video. The question I have is do you have to pick one niche and stick to it? Or does the algorithm not care about that? I know on YouTube switching up your content can be a death sentence.

  12. I'm not sure if the new rollout has hit the states yet, but here in Asia, Tiktok has stopped pushing emerging content creators in favour of people paying for promotion and already bigger/established creators. If your window with Tiktok is still open, capitalise on it asap!

  13. "Do what you would like to see" – genius. Such a simple concept, but I was so hung up on trying to "fit in" I never got started on TikTok. Looking forward to hearing more on this app from you, you always hit the nail hard.

  14. As a hobbyist musician I’m making one minute songs and posting a basic video to TikTok. I get a couple hundred views which is way more than I’ll ever get on Spotify. This strategy also helps me improve because I get more songs done. I also don’t get sick of the music I create. Maybe if I get really good feedback on one song I’ll build out a 2 or 3 minute version and post on Spotify.

  15. Hey Jesse,
You kind of argue in this video that TikTok is turning into a platform like Instagram where artists can treat it as "their hub" almost. In this sense they can post updates, market their music, and it sounds like market other things like upcoming shows, merch, etc.

One thing I keep seeing is an artist will blow up on TikTok, get thousands, sometimes millions of followers on the platform, but you check out their Instagram and it has a fraction of that.

What do you think of this phenomena? What do you think an artist can do to drive its big audience to it's other platforms? Do you think that Instagram is still the "standard social platform" in terms of gauging an artists audience/fanbase?
