@jessecannon is there a general guideline with playlist length ? Too much music vs too little ?
I just started using spotify for artists to do this and found out We were on a playlist of one of my absolute favorite artists! [Moses Sumney, a genius of a generation.] I literally lost my mind overflowing with joy and disbelief. If incould provide 0.1% of that level of joy to someone else, it is definitely worth more than what little effort it takes to do this. I have been a DIY artist touring for 10+ years and have so many friends i have been having fun adding to this playlist. It is truly a delight.❤
lol what do you do if you're not into any of the crap out there
Hey Jesse. I'm a new subscriber to your channel and absolutely drinking up every video. I've been in the biz since '96 (aiyy I'm old), got a bunch of platinum records under my belt BUT I'm new to Spotify. I got an new 14-year-old artist that we're releasing on Sept.16th and I just wanted to thank you for being there for all us Spotify virgins.
Does this apply to classical pianists? the reason I ask is because it has been my experience that this group is notorious for NOT helping each other out.
How many songs do you recommend having on the playlist to begin with? I know you mentioned finding 11 other artists aside from myself. Should I have multiple songs from each artist?
Love this idea. We are trying it bow with bands in our scene and other great artist around the world. We’re calling our group the FTA (F&$K the Algorithm) and connecting with killer artists who wanna work the system.
You the man. Thank you
How do you know if bots or real ppl are listening to your tracks or your playlist? How can U block them? Why doesn't Spotify block them if it is possible to know?
Thanks for your video. How do we add an assistant to our spotify playlist to manage this for us without giving away our password and maintaining ownership of our playlist?
Thanks Jesse. I enjoy your videos. And I really really wanted this to work. And maybe it would if I kept doing it over and over? But unfortunately, after spending a few hours on creating a playlist, and promoting it a bit, and tagging artists… I found a few artists thanked me and appreciated it. Maybe shared it. But not 1 person followed it. Some artists didn't even say anything. Could I keep at it, and promote it more, and keep changing songs and pushing for it? Yea – there's a chance it would catch on. So Im not saying it doesn't work. Or maybe I did something wrong? I don't know. But at some point, after 80 hour weeks of making music and trying promotion tactics and attempting to build relationships in ways that feel authentic, it's not sustainable or relastic to me (or even healthy) to keep attempting all of them with 100% effort without much return. So I dropped my attempts on this one. And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pretty disheartened. Hopefully it works for more of you. If it does, maybe you can share some more advice/words of wisdom 🤷🏻♀️
I put out my debut EP last week – Yesterday the lead track seemed to have ended up on Release Radar and jumped about 700 streams in a day so has just broken 1k. A friend of mine who is already an established artist told me about Xposic Promotion.
1:04 That one hit deep….
I’m so glad I found this channel filled with very practical down to earth advice 👍🇺🇸
how the fuck did he know i was playing candy crush
haha stop crushing candy and listen to grandpa yell at the sky. nice.
this industry like every industry is DOMINATED by introverts prove me wrong. Please don't say 2pac or any short flame I'm talking long game cause that matters.
Do you have any tips for artists who have a hard time categorizing their music into a pre-existing genre? For instance, my music is spans several different styles of electronic music and also contains guitar-centered elements of funk, 60s style psychedelic rock. and post rock.
Thanks recently discover this channel, i feel in college its has been very hard to increase fanbase since i am completely indie ! If songs are already published should i start promoting again? All of the ? Album is from 2020 and i stoped promoting
This is great advice. However, the problem that we keep running into is that the local musicians whom we put on a playlist never share or even mention it. They may say thanks or give you a "like". But that's about it.
Thanks Jesse! Quick question though, would you contact the artist first and ask first or just add the song to your playlist?
Awesome info, your content has really helped us focus our digital efforts the right way since live performance went dark…but honestly it's stuff we should all be doing anyway, much appreciated!
Follow this playlist. DM me afterwards and i will follow yours. Takes litterally 2 secs. https://open.spotify.com/user/evenmk12/playlist/4PifZ4vLroyYxfAtWM2Uat?si=-aUFGds2TS-Ua3tbSFULNg
