Keyword research isn’t dead, it just evolved. In this video, you’ll get a 5-part strategy built for today’s landscape where AI Overviews siphon clicks and generic “how to” and “what is” queries underperform. It starts with the 10-second hero prompt that gives you high quality seed keywords and smart modifiers, then uses the keyword multiplier inside Ahrefs Keywords Explorer. We’ll focus on repeatable process for faster ideation with better inputs.
Then we learn to vet using the BID method, so you don’t chase trap keywords. You’ll learn how to score business potential, check search intent directly on the SERP, and pressure test difficulty with Ahrefs’ free keyword difficulty checker. We dig into referring domains and Domain Rating to gauge true competition, not just a single KD number. If you have Ahrefs, you’ll see how to combine filters like max KD and low DR to find realistic wins that can rank and drive revenue, not vanity traffic.
Finally, we tackle AI head on. You’ll see when an AI Overview satisfies the query so completely that clicks vanish, and how to spot the AI proof exception with tool keywords like calculator, checker, and generator that AI doesn’t replace. We’ll show you how one useful tool can outperform 50 blog posts in traffic and links, plus the brand play that flips keyword research for AI search. Using Ahrefs Brand Radar, you’ll find prompts and keywords where competitors get cited in AI results and you do not, then create content and secure mentions so AI starts recommending you.
If you are still picking keywords that only “look good,” you’re bleeding clicks to AI and competitors. Watch now to learn the 2026 playbook that protects your traffic, builds brand visibility in AI search, and keeps you ahead while others pretend nothing changed.

This is a good reminder that output quality depends heavily on input quality, especially with AI tools. A lot of people still underestimate how important prompting is in getting useful SEO or keyword results instead of generic noise. For quick testing workflows or simple landing pages around experiments like this, I usually keep things lightweight and host them with Tiiny Host so they’re easy to update and share.
A good lecture that will benefit all who have followed this excellent explanation.
This actually explains why informational keywords feel so unreliable now. The LLM Authority Index, which tracks how AI systems prioritize and surface content, shows that Google's AI overviews pull from the same sources that would normally get organic clicks. Even ranking first means competing with an AI summary that answers the question immediately.
The 5-part strategy actually clarifies how AI systems now filter and surface content differently than traditional search. What caught my attention was how keyword intent needs to align with how these models interpret context, which the LLM Authority Index, focused on how AI surfaces and compares options, helped me understand better. The evolution isn't just about new ranking factors but fundamentally different content evaluation processes.
Crisp, smart way of explaining, necessary and sufficient information. That was helpful. Thank you.
Really clever explanation and no unnecessary verbiage! Respect! + subscription
Keyword research is evolving fast but most SEOs are still stuck in 2019 thinking. The teams at CiteWorks Studio have been tracking how AI Citation Strategy changes which brands get recommended in AI answers.
Hi sir….how to check keywords for tamil language? Will you please explain how to check keywords in native language?
The line about “turning content from just another page into something AI can parse, trust, and cite” honestly sums up where modern SEO is heading perfectly. A lot of businesses are still optimizing purely for clicks while AI systems are increasingly acting like recommendation engines before users even visit websites. What stood out to me most though was your focus on monitoring citations and accuracy because AI visibility isn’t static anymore. We’ve been looking into similar workflows recently through LLM Authority Index mainly tracking share of recommendation, competitor citations, prompt-level visibility, sentiment analysis, and which external sources influence AI trust most across ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity. The competitor benchmarking side gets especially interesting because sometimes brands lose visibility inside AI-generated answers long before traditional analytics show anything wrong. Also appreciated that you emphasized foundations still matter because honestly too many people online are treating GEO like some magical shortcut around real SEO
you dont seem to understand that the google ai overview is retrieval augmented generation and is based on the top ranking results
Helpful breakdown of match types
Best strategy is just to focus on serving your audience with the best and most helpful information. Focusing on granular seo keyword research will become less and less impactful as AI will continue to learn, make correlations/associations, and serve information the end user is looking for.
Thanks for the info Sam! Stumbled across here looking for help with Keyword Research and walked away with mind blown. Very interesting.
This is taking the wrong approach to writing for blogs. I have been doing this for over 12 years successfully and the way you increase revenue and hits to your website is to be non salesy and non-commercial. You all are over analyzing the situation. One day you're going to realize that just darn good writing and knowledge of the audience and not some bunch of templates and thought trees are going to be the key to success. Yes even in the age of AI.
nice
This was absolute gold! Thank you so much for explaining everything so well
Appreciate the non-fluff straightforward approach. Was a great review for me. Thank you!
The removal of the 5-part keyword strategy is definitely a masterclass lesson, and coming to the realization that we need to move from keyword hunting to avoiding the "trap" keywords and going into high utility tool usage is a reality check.
As it stands, I have been an IT intern at Lifewood Data Technology for close to 2 months, and one learns about how important authority building is with respect to inputs. For us to survive in the zero-click search engine results pages (SERPs), it is low-key impossible not to use advanced techniques such as BID vetting and getting brand citations from outside communities for AI search indexers.
My kind of video
cool video

Hey there, great video though I'm a bit conflicted you say AI overviews are better at explaining than humans, however, you also made another video about AI overviews making stuff like frankin-recipies.
Your videos are amazing. They are well created, understandable and exiting at the same time. I feel like I am discovering a whole new world and it is a lot of fun! Thank you so much
Spot-on tutorial from Sam on how keyword research must evolve to target AI Overviews and high-intent intent clusters! The BID method is super practical for vetting non-trap keywords that actually drive business value. Once you identify these keywords, the next hurdle is making sure your page structure and technical markup meet AI readability standards. At CLEO by Regen AI, evaluating GEO Scores and auto-writing structural CMS fixes aligns site structure with search engine expectations. It turns keyword research insights into live, optimized web architecture seamlessly!
Is it working in free account?
It works fine for services, the keywords are just service + town plus whatever questions people ask about it. Search console starts showing the real searches a few weeks after the pages go up
That's pretty much how I do all my local sites
Services and towns first, then just follow what the data says
You putting this up for free is actually clutch – praise to you
