The 100 links per page policy was implemented eons ago. It's awseome that someone else asked this question.
Follow the best links + content. Remember that you're diving the juice between all of the pages that you're linking out to 🙂

The fact that Google is investigated means nothing. Companies are being investigated all the time. It also doesn't mean Matt Cutts is lying. Also you don't seem to be responding to the actual statement that I made. In stead you seem to only spout a conspiracy theory. Assuming you mean the FTC investigation: it ended without charges. Btw. this channel is older than the investiagtion.
its because google is being investigated for rigging things this is a propaganda page for google, trying to make themselves look better in government investigations.

The google guy is wrong with the formula. The formula is PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1)/C(T1) + … + PR(Tn)/C(Tn)) ….. C(T) is the number of outdegree links from another page that links to your page. The formula doesn't show any impact to your rank PR(A) when having links in your site, instead, there is a possitive contribution to your rank from others Pages PR(T) which link to you, this contribution is minimized when the number of links on that page are many C(T). The guy is wrong

What if your page with 5000 links is the SITEMAP? It will definitely look like you're stuffing things in there.

This might be a dumb question so please forgive me if it is. Would this apply to an indexed style site map? What I mean is what if all the items on a site that are alphabetically listed on a sitemap go well over 500 links on that page? Would that site be penalized in some way or considered a link farm or spammy?

@crashxxx If he "don't want not us to know something", then why on earth did they make this channel. Google could just leave us in the dark about everything, but they don't. They actually care about good search results, so that they can serve their customers well. So it is in their best interest that people will make websites with good content that they can crawl well and hence give their custumors good SERPs. THAT is why they are NOT lying (very often ;-)). Good to hear an update about this, been wondering about this for the past few years (when I started SEO I kept hearing about this "link cap" but never saw any solid evidence that it was true)
