  1. Jesse, when say DIY artist are they strictly doing everything themselves without any representation even by a small label or are they getting some help from a label or similar?

  2. Spotify playlist are failing smaller artists. On new music friday you don’t even get an underdog, it’s only this mainstream artists. It sucks cause I actually thought with Spotify it be different. But they becoming like Apple

  3. I’m so glad I watched this all the way through…that last little bit gave me some hope … and convinced me once I can afford to (I’m currently on medical leave and waiting for stuff to get approved) I’m signing up for ChartMetrics. I admit I got a bit nervous over my band’s genre switch at first but I think the move away from trying to have a “current” sound and return to our experimental roots was the correct one. Our numbers definitely bear that out, but knowing there are genres without as much major label stranglehold on editorial playlists gives me some hope

  4. If you're truly an Indie artist and by that I mean not signed to a label you won't stand a chance in hell getting on the playlists you need to get on to break. At that point IMO, Spotify is irrelevant for you. Your better off putting your energy and resources in getting people to either get your music off your website and or Bandcamp. In other words find the people will support you financially. You won't have to worry about getting a bajillion streams and only make a couple hundred bucks. Sell your music old school.
