  1. Great video but why is your nose so stuffed up?
No seriously thanks. Ive worked in digital strategy for 25 years and there are so many options it makes my head spin, Shopify is a good call, we built a pretty serious business of the back of one of those once, very scalable… but I hadnt thought of them as a small scale website design CMS.

  2. you can have a shitty page if you are going to do it for your fans, if you use email marketing that beats all algorithms out there, you have the most important thing ever … the real contact with your fans, a fan will always be a fan and they will support you no matter what, but the condition is to keep doing better …

  3. imo & experience – personal websites for bands are dead, unless you're a top-shelf act w/stellar social media management. all the people are on FB, IG, TT, Twit, etc. & those sites are free to use. good luck trying to get someone to visit your artist website, & if they do, it better be filled with high dollar vids, photos & world-class recordings that are constantly changing & being added to. again, that's been my experience w/having a personal artist website. cheers!

  4. Hey Jesse, is it possible to make a Shopify site that links out to a third party merch store? I’m really intrigued by your points but my artist client is working with a different company already for merch

  5. Imma try to get by with IG, discord, youtube as a start and streaming platforms + bandcamp. Social media makes me bing bong fugg my life, so I really wanna keep it simple as I can and avoid my echo chamber of memes and thirst traps.
I really liked that you emphasized community in the last video because that’s the least overwhelming to me (I like people.. mostly).

Also wanna hear your opinion on this,

I mainly focus on beats and rap, but in general I’m likely gonna create one or two separate aliases for different genres that I make (beats/triphop/electronica, and psychedelia rock/funky stuff).
Do you think there’s any pros to this? Putting myself out there as not just 1 but 2-3 artists? Maybe showcasing that and letting potential listeners know that I create different types of music? Assuming half of the music is decent or good lol

  6. Hey all, really glad you're enjoying this. I think viewer Hisham Dahud has some great insights on the benefits of websites as you start blowing up. Be sure to catch it below and lemme know any other thoughts.

  7. so selling our merch through shopify on our spotify is where it's at…feh. And I didn't like you plucking down my introducing myself on your "community group" on fb. you have zero credibility

  8. Thanks for the video, Jesse — although I have to disagree with the idea that building a website is a waste of resources for early stage musicians.

In addition to the SEO advantages you mentioned:

    1. Segmenting audiences between the casuals, regulars, and hardcores will always be a priority. Capturing emails via the website is still one of the best ways to identify and service those high-intent fans. And however early you are, you still want to begin as early as possible cultivating that core audience.

    2. Websites are a great way to offer point-of-sale merchandise, exclusive content, and other items to those high-intent visitors who've made their way OFF of Spotify or socials to learn more about you. They came to get more… give 'em more.

    3. Pixel tracking continues to be a highly effective way to retarget website visitors for tour, merch, and release offers. I know you're not a fan of FB/IG ads, but at least for — I'm seeing results.

    4. Websites continue to weather the storm of social platforms as they fall in and out of popularity. It's your own real estate online as opposed to borrowing someone else's platform.

    5. Websites are great ways to showcase and solidify visual identity and branding through an unobstructed interface, as opposed to streaming or social platforms where you must cater to their guidelines.

One more option for website building is Bandzoogle, which is tailor-made for musicians and very affordable. No affiliation, just a fan of their product.

Thanks for all the videos, keep up the great work!

  9. I had chronic sinusitis for over 10 years then surgury for it. That cleared it up for a couple years then it returned. After a few more years if finally went away completely.
