Ryan Holiday's book "Ego is the Enemy" touches on a lot of this as well. It's a really important concept that's misunderstood by so many.
I used to take rejection and criticism so poorly. I think I still do sometimes; it never made me want to stop and I didnβt really care for the criticism per se.
I would always just have something to say back and even if it wasnβt insecure or hostile, it would be perceived that way. I just say nothing now and let the music and them talk.
I became an actor recently on top of music, just kinda got lucky. It has really helped with rejection. I have learned it is like a callus you build. Half the time the rejection or criticism isnβt even your fault. Humans are so inconsistent and feel one thing one second and then something else the next. I lost parts because of strengths I had. Like being taller than the lead etc. Makes them look smaller on camera. Point is, keep going it doesnβt matter.
This has probably been the most helpful video on your channel for me personally. Thanks for doing what you do!
%100 brother, hard brutal truths, I honestly tried so hard 2-3 years ago but realised in the last 3-4 months I knew absolutely nothing about any of it. I was completely delusional before thinking what I was doing was enough and what I knew was enough. Still so much to improve on, beef up and fill out, but this year is truly the year! Great videos mate, your plethora of knowledge keeps me focused when I feel a little energy leak, thanks for the knowledge and support!!
Thanks Jesse! really needed this reminder as i get ready to end 2022 with releasing my 3rd album OPM, applying your advice on consistent sustained promotion, building community, and connecting with my audience thru eventful things and storytelling content
Hey Jesse, love these videos man. This is one of the most informative channels in the field. Would you mind checking out some of the music on my page?
This is so insightful. Iβm glad to recognize that I do some of the positive mindset things mentioned in this video. I think you did a perfect job explaining what it should mean to be an artist or any kind, and I hope this one makes it to as many people who need to hear it as possible. Because I sure did fr.
Goddamnit I got cocky again… Thanks for the remaster! perfect timing eats crow
Hey Jesse. These videos are extremely helpful. You mention not having a fear of putting yourself out there and sending your music to people but how do you go about that without coming off as one of the youtube comment-rappers who links their music to everyone, everywhere.
Very informative video. Thank you
This info is insanely good from so many angles… this stuff is extremely valuable to me as I get a brand new (and very personal) project off the ground. Thanks Jesse.

Facts
I keep telling myself to hang in there, to keep writing. It can be very hard to motivate yourself sometimes when you know people would like what you're doing but have no idea you're there.
This is it. This is the channel I needed to find.
Question : I'm currently applying your "constent sustained promotion technique" and I'm facing one challenging situation.
I've released co-produced music in the past.
But as I wanted to release music more often, I've decided to produce everything myself to keep on learning and save money.
Which means my production level is a bit lower.
But I've gained skills and am able to release more often.
Is it risky to share this kind of DIY image ?
I thought people would appreciate to follow my evolution but I've received comments about my production in comparison to my past releases.
Would you have any advice ? Thanks a lot for you help and for all your precious videos!
eating some much needed humble pie here. thanks for this one dude
What was the name of the free link services similar to link tree. I donβt recall the name. I remember you mentioned it in one of your vids

Great info, too much politics.
Great video Jesse, thank youβ¦ lol I was one of those people who thought I was so great, but my sister asked me the other day why itβs taking so long to finish the tracks Iβm working onβ¦ my recent epiphanies commanded me to tell her βIβm not as smart as all these big musicians- YET.β – I had realized this a while ago but this video confirmed a lotβ¦ be confident but βnoticeβ the ways you suck!
ooo love this one !
Thanks for the wise words, I'm currently trying to spread my sound & I know I have lots of improving to do but I'm just trying to stay on the path. If anyone wouldn't mind checking out one of my songs and subscribing if you like anything I'd appreciate that. I'm open to give anyone else a listen as well ππ
