  1. Ok, Andre3000’s flute album bored me too, but please don’t be dissing my instrument my Dude, you know I’m a fan of yours! Flute is not boring if it’s played well (and to your point, in the right setting!)

  2. These things work in theory but what is your goal? If you can imagine everything you do clicks and you feel like you have hopped on the algorithm train, whats next? Are you still chasing numbers? Even at the end?

  3. Is it best not to like and generally watch content that is unrelated to your music because you’re giving the algorithm the wrong idea as to what you want it to feed and return to you?

  4. I dont agree entirely with this video. For example, being featured with other artist release is not the biggest marketing opportunity today AT ALL (it's the same principle as being featured on editorial playlist, in which the interest in you as an artist is just secondary). I agree with what Nic D and Connor Price say, that artists need to make engaging content on Tiktok today, and that's it. No more gatekeepers.

  5. Vis a Vis TikTok, am I to understand that the amount of views and interaction you receive on your own content is determined by what other users' content you comment on, hit like on and otherwise engage with? In other words, if you were to comment and like on other users’ retro-pop-type content often enough, your own content will get shown to more people who also like retro-pop, for example?

  6. Why are you promoting a white Asian girl with a black guy? Why don’t you promote a black girl with a white guy trying to be politically correct trying to appeal to the black guys to hire you

  7. Great video Jesse! And I love your humor, just the right amount! "So turn in your grammar police badge you DORKS!", I love it, that's how you handle negative comments! Keep up the great info videos. We appreciate your hard work!

  8. I keep hoping for a revolution and I think I got a glimmer of hope the other day with something I hadn't heard of before. I think it's called "Curated Distribution?" It's where a distributor will selectively choose who they distribute according to genre and other considerations. Collectively, they build a community and a marketing platform for their artists and take a cut. It sounds a bit like the old days to me but in a good way. Actually, it sounds like what the old label system should have done when streaming first broke, a shift from manufacturing and radio promotion to distribution and promotion on digital platforms.

Is this a new idea? Have I missed something?

  9. Hey Jesse, I have kind of a long comment, I’ve asked a version of this to you before, but realized I left out kind of a crucial detail, hopefully you read all this lol.

So I’m a touring musician in the lofi emo scene, I’ve played just over 100 shows in 11 different countries in North America, Europe and Asia over the past 2 years. In 2022 I was asked to be a part of a covers compilation for a really big artist in my niche (Crywank) that to this day gets 100’s of saves every week. The problem is the other artists on this comp are a total mish mash genre wise and I believe that even 2 years later it’s totally confused the algorithm for me. I’ve done a colab with another really big artist in my niche (mage tears) and along with constantly touring I’ve worked hard to develop connections on the internet with other artists in my community and even gone to their respective cities, particularly in the US and Germany, to play with them, but still there are bands in my fans also like section that really feel like they shouldn’t be there. My question is what would you do if you were in my position to retrain the algorithm so to speak? I’ve heard you mention advertising a playlist with my desired algorithmic links, but honestly with all the touring I’m completely broke and can’t really afford an ad campaign that will really make a dent.

Anyways thanks for your time and all the info as always! Love the channel
