  1. Marquee is an absolute waste of time and money as far as I'm concerned. I spent £100 to get 46 streams and four new listeners, which I would have done quite easily without Marquee. To make matters worse the £100 budget was used in ONE day!
However, I have got much better results using the Discovery mode/campaign, which has resulted in a huge increase in streams , listeners and saves! So I wont be using Marquee anymore but will persist with Discover for the time being.
But at least Spotify are doing some thing to help artists promote their music, unlike Apple Music which doesn't seem to do anything to help artists at all!

  2. trying this out soon for my latest album BAD DATE NEVER AGAIN, steadily growing my Spotify audience and a lot of your videos have helped me build it, thank you Jesse!

  3. hey Jesse! i have a question regarding consistent sustained promotion. i’ve been using instagram to promote for the most part and am just starting out.

i’ve noticed reels have been an easy way to get some exposure, i’ve gotten around 11,000 total views in two weeks. i’ve noticed that i get 4-6 new followers for every reel that the algorithm picks up.

with consistent sustained promotion, it feels like i’m saying things to an empty room though. my followers don’t engage much and my streams on spotify are very low after the initial release. i’m posting something of value every day like pictures with some kind of story or a reel of me playing the guitar but the followers gained seems a bit empty as it doesnt seem to transfer to any more streams or spotify followers.

my question: is there anything big i’m missing here? is there some way to get more of a boost in engagement or will it be a slow/steady process like it’s been?

thank you! your videos are absolutely amazing and have been beyond helpful.

  4. Was hoping you’d expand more on the point of releasing many singles then adding it to an album and beyond that market it as an album. What’re your thoughts on that? Just as a listener one of my favorite artists released an “album” yesterday and it’s 90% singles. I was hella bummed. Does the songs streams as singles carry over and help you in any way release an album?

  5. Buying Facebook ads is the single worst thing any musician can do because it usually just works out to paying five times as much for each person that follows you on Facebook. Then they don’t even show your future posts to those people. they only initially serve your post up to 1% of them. At no time does Facebook respect the fact that you already paid them to gain those followers. They additionally charge you to boost your post to the followers that you already paid to get. It’s a cycle that no one should engage in especially if you aren’t directly selling an item that has a high chance of generating profitable revenue. [not streams or plays on videos] instead find groups that share a common interest to a theme of one of your songs and introduce that one piece of music or a playlist or blog post that empathizes with that group topic. Create content you tailor to that cause or theme only and it will become effective free marketing. It’s a much more effective and free point of entry. People who like that particular piece of music will follow you and discover more.

  6. It’s so ridiculous that they charge so much there should be a sliding scale and indie artist less than 25,000 fans should get this for free for the first 30 days of releasing an album.

  7. Is it possible the play here is to use this tool as your initial plays start to dip in the first week? I mean, if you use it when you drop a track, you are effectively giving Spotify a crapload of money for plays that were going to happen anyway.

  8. It’s available to artists with more than 15,000 streams in the U.S. over the last 28 days, and teams with U.S. billing information. Meaning…you can't just have 15,000 streams period. you need to have 15,000 US streams….

  9. Been using marquee for artists for a while, usually won’t reach enough people for a minimum campaign spend ($250) unless they have over 100k listeners tbh. Great additional tool for mid-large sized artist, not so much for smaller indies

  10. I've ran about 4-5 of these campaigns, they're great. The engagement metrics are super high, and the cost per click is reasonable considering its USA only. Did a video walking through some data on them a few months ago.

  11. Yay another tool that is gatekept from small artists, Spotify is the devil, and the price point is laughable… that being said, the video was interesting and I appreciate your insight as always 👍

  12. It’s annoying that the requirements to use marquee are so high, plus the need for a US bank account (British citizen over here). Is there a way for small artists (less than 100 monthly listeners) to spend a little money on some form of marketing to push their music further afield than their immediate circle of acquaintances?
