  1. I think you're being completely bias. If each click leads to user discovering your profile then you better have more that one song ready for them to listen to or else you'll never break even under typical circumstances.

If an artist creates a discography of 50 songs across multiple albums and spends say $10K on clicks then that's 20K or 3.33M streams to break even.

I understand music is an individual taste but collectively, it falls under one of two major unofficial genres: good music or bad music. Assuming each click has a 50% follow rate that's 10K new fans (in other words, the artists music is nothing more than a coin flip which an artist that makes music that is generally recognized as "good" should easily meet or surpass).

The oldest and most tried and true music marketing strategy is good old fashioned word of mouth. The good news is that it's a completely free marketing strategy. If each follower tells two friends and each friend tells two more but only half of the recipients get a positive feedback (again just a coin flip) then that's a total of 3 new followers per click. So that's a total of 30K new followers from the original ad campaign.

If each follower listens to your discography of 50 songs on average twice each (we've all had that newly discovered artist on repeat so this isn't even a stretch) then that's 100 streams per follower or 3M streams. That is fairly close to breaking even with a fan base of 30K just from the ad campaign for music that's considered a literal coin flip.

To conclude, Spotify doesn't owe anyone anything. It does most of the work by getting an artists work in front of people who are most likely to be receptive to that artists work. It gives artist a swing at the bat. But like baseball, an artists music has to be able to knock it out of the park. You can't buy fandom and expect to pay dividends or else everyone would upload noise and be rolling in royalties.

  2. The Industry won’t have another breakthrough moment for Independent Artists until the next SoundCloud steps on the scene. I see exactly how they’d need to setup their entire platform too. But even if this happens, the main issue is that Labels own the Masters to so many legendary songs that we love, therefore they’ll always fight to beat out Indie companies by getting consumers to eventually use their platforms… It’s a TOUGH battle, because we’re dealing with old money, with a lot of wealthy people who refuse to allow their money to be disrupted by the little man.

  3. The targeting on the Marquee pop ups is way off, too – I only see them for artists I have no interest in. Some of my friends have noticed the same thing, we never see marquee ads for artists we actually listen to.

  4. It's obviously a move more geared towards catering to the labels' deeper pockets than your average Indie artist. Yes, it has everything to do with money; but let's be more real — the labels see the Indie music scene as a threat to their legacy business model.

  5. The Joe Rogan dig has me questioning your page man. Idc about Rogan but if you really think saying ivermectin should be called a horse medicine to all of your many followers I have to question any advice you give in general? Do you mean that or did you say that tryna be like on a team?

  6. This dude hates on Joe Rogan all the time lol envy . Why don’t you look up ivermectin that shit won a noble prize for its effectiveness and safe use in humans and studies show it works for the COVID as well . Tool .

  7. Welp… Not gonna bother listening to someone's analysis when they're so horrible at research that they think Ivermectin is "horse medicine." Refugees are literally REQUIRED to take Ivermectin before entering the US and other foreign countries, and even the NIH has described the mechanisms by which it can be effective against Covid. It's one of the safest and most-studied drugs out there, but the slightest mention of real science these days will inevitably conjure up some sarcastic Libtard comment about "Qanon conspiracy theories," as if that was somehow relevant to anything. After Rolling Stone got caught pushing that fake hit peice about it, no other disinformation campaign has ever been so blatant and undeniable.

  8. Ivermectin is not a “horse drug”, it’s commonly prescribed medication for humans with a version that also has uses in a different form for some animals. It’s also been shown to combat C-19 effectively in many cases. You should do some more research before making false claims about potentially life-saving drugs.

  9. Music need it's oun spot away from podcast for starters I will never use Facebook or it's adds thay spy on pepole to mutch you will never be an individual if you are on Facebook. spotify is the best we have rite now but you are not going to make money lol If you sold a burnt CDs on the street you can make money if the toun your in dosent run you out most city's and towns have new rules on selling art even though it's protected buy the constitution I have made all my money on CDs alone even if I sell them for two dollars I still make more if you make any money selling CDs then you have got spotify beat that's eazey 00.005245 per stream lol .

  10. I hear you on this, but basically this is just another form of payola / promotion / advertising. It's just how it's always been, and how it always will be. Even if a platform like Audius did take over Spotify's market share in 10 years from now, they would eventually succumb to the same thing, blockchain or no blockchain. The currency isn't the issue. Human nature is the issue. You just have to find a way to play the game to your advantage as an artist.

  11. Wow, a video from Jesse! I haven’t seen your videos on my YT home screen, like never – even though I’m subscribed to your channel since 3-4 years ago, since I bought your “Processing Creativity” book

  12. it’s sad they always run these things into the ground for shareholders. facebook, instagram, youtube, it’s always the same pattern: exploit the users until you can’t anymore, instead of building a healthy long lasting eco system that profits everyone.

anyway, glad you said it. 🔥🙏🏽

  13. smart smart smart. i'm doing my latest release all via nft. the demos were released as nfts and in a month the final album will come out to streaming services, but released early to blockchain platforms 😉

  14. What makes me unsure about spotifys future consequences is the fact that you are paying for a potential relationship with a fan when using maquees that can potentialy bring home the bucks. Or at least that might be their argument

  15. This was sadly inevitable. In regards to your point about a list of new music from artist you follow, what are your thoughts on the new 'What's New' section? It seems to be close to what people have been asking for, in a very hidden and roundabout way.
