  1. @Musformation Love your channel thanks for all the help. I have a question, what would you advise a small collective of artists to do while heading out in search of booking shows out of state. While wanting to book the gigs ourselves.

  2. sometimes you have to go thru the bad to get to the good… I sent an email not long ago, I had sent them an email like a couple of years ago and I sent an email just this week actually – and they blocked my emails smh whatever lol so what does that tell you. I do appreciate venues who will take the time whether or not it is the truth and just say WE are not hiring or whatever it is they say.

  3. TONS of bands don't even have their music online. I'm a promoter ( some booking, IT SUCKS ) I have a disclosure on my website. It's ok if you don't have EPK I do those. but you have to at some point put your music online unless YOU JUST WANT TO PLAY and still but venues that will pay crappy bands $50 rather than even have a decent band and it still doesn't really PAY. smh not the bills anyway

  4. I always struggle with the shared genre piece for setting up bills. I think most people nowadays listen to many genres of music, and since my band doesn't fit neatly in one genre we like booking shows with diverse line ups. I understand it cuts up communities, but in someways i think that also helps build community as it brings people together that may not assemble otherwise. And honestly, as a listener i much enjoy going to shows like these myself.

  5. Played a gig today @ a local coffee shop for free hot chocolate and $100. Unfortunately hardly anyone was there. However the one man and I do mean one…. Was actually a freelance journalist and he's going to interview me and put me in touch with some local brewerys and some musicians in Chicago.

  6. Doing my first underground show right now, this is exactly what I needed for the next step after the show. Thanks a lot man been watching the channel for like a year now and it’s really helped like a ton!! Keep preaching community building too!! That means so much more then numbers

  7. Just found your channel and REALLY appreciate the amount of info and detail you put into this vid. I'm helping my husband get his foot going, and I am trying to educate myself on the ways, so thank you!

  8. Im currently trying to book shows around pittsburgh. Using this i might take a more analytical approach first with numbers first before going furthur. Ive played small shows but im trying to get a decent opening spot. Will keep on keepin on. Thanks

  9. on the "how to book a tour" episode it could work to have Donovan from Hail the sun as a guest; They are a band on Equal Vision Records and also are good pals with Danc gavin Dance & circa survive. He was actually the one that booked their first tours when they started. Now apart from the band, he's also booking tours from GlassJAw and the like (and just lanched a VIP ticketing company)

  10. Hi Jesse. I've been writing music for years but only properly started releasing during the pandemic. It went pretty well and I got a good bit of radio play in my country (Ireland). Things are opening up again here, but I have pretty much never played music live in public (though I have performed other types of music live). I'm not exactly starting from scratch as I already have a small bit of momentum from the radio play etc, but in many ways it's my first rodeo. Any tips on how to start out? Open mics?

  11. I'm in Brooklyn and in 2019 I put on a show a month for a whole year in which I contacted the venue, and promoted it with my band. It was mostly at small venues in Bushwick and at first our shows had like 10 people. i was losing money due to me putting it on and curating it all by myself, however our performances got so good most of the people came every month to see me. Last two shows we got over 100+ draw, then COVID hit. I kind of want to do the same thing but I want to progress and see more growth. Booked a Sofar show this month and possibly might do Bowery Electric in October for my EP release. Any advice on what to do next to make the best of it and triple my draw from 100 to 300 on average? Love your videos btw! Thanks for everything. Glad you're in NYC.

  12. Music really is a numbers game, the amount of bands you have to hit up as a producer before you find one that's willing to pay in anything more than exposure 🤦‍♂️

What are your thoughts on getting similar bands together and booking your own show, renting out a place?
Or as a solo act without a band, what are some ways to keep that entertaining?

    Thanks for the video Jesse!

  13. Great video. Pretty much in line with my thoughts on the matter.

I am a gig promoter, but I only put on a few gigs a year usually. In my particular case – I actually find the bands that 'persevere' with trying to get booked to be quite annoying, as it's unlikely that a suitable gig would have came up for them by the next time they contact me. I've also had some bands go completely over-board with this approach and get a bit invasive, such as randomly adding me on facebook and then sending too many messages to me about a possible gig (that I previously confirmed I wasn't planning to organise). If I was booking shows every week or more often – then perhaps I'd feel a bit differently about this.

  14. Best music marketing channel on YouTube! Wish I had this channel back when I was in Some Action (we recorded in your basement). Still playing music after all these years, always something new to learn. Thanks Jesse!
