@rob60201 Well I think it would be worth it to revisit it. Progress is slow, but strides have been made. With a little fine tuning and creativity something professional can be attained. If you've not checked out the resources page on my blog, do so, there's plenty of examples of nice-looking public Google Sites. And I know things will only get better =).

I think the point here is that we need Matt to provide some examples the deal with real business problems, rather than generic "create unique content" answers. Not everything fits that mold, actually I would argue that there are many small business who face the “door frames” example. They need to have their services visible, and not just in the city where their address is. Give us something less generic Matt.
Matt, you seem to suggest that Google promotes excellence, but most of the top results on Google for competitive keywords don't support that theory.

In the door frames market there will be plenty of people that will find the new hinges you have designed or the style of your door frame interesting and link to it. You just need to be clever about how and where you do it. If it was that easy then everyone would be on the top of Goggle and marketing companies would be out of business. Stop looking for direct answers to your questions & think creatively

Sheeplols, buying links is a bad idea and I would recommend staying away from those types of "SEO Experts".

That was way too vague, let’s use a small business in a small town that services a state wide area. Let’s say you have a brand new website with no history. Where do you start?
