The SEO Starter Guide is getting a refresh! Have you ever wondered how the Search team plans and writes such a document? In this episode of Search Off The Record, John Mueller, Gary Illyes, and Lizzi Sassman discuss which topics are still relevant, the right level of detail for a starter guide, and whether or not including anti-patterns in documentation is a good idea.

also, imo it is a starter thing, something that i'd like to know when starting… (so that i know it's not that important… :D)

Hi Jon, If our website traffic is from a country where internet is slow will it effect the page ranking as i check our mobile performance is flagged as poor at 85 under WCV. Does google take into consideration slow internet connection. Any suggestion
yeah me too
found it useful and interesting. I would like to hear more like it.
Don't believe gossip you hear on social media. I have heard that "SEO is dead" rumor for the past 15 years at least. I've written a post called "SEO is Alive" a year ago for Search Engine Land. It's still valid IMHO.
Is there an official channel like this for youtube seo?
Definitely love each person on this call. I am mostly a Gary fanboy, but this podcast wasn't useful. I mean John Mueller stating that they should make a single HTML page for all sites is silly. Plus, it's ripped out of context. What the community is looking for is an EXAMPLE page that has great SEO to use as an EXAMPLE. It's obvious the whole internet won't be the same page. This is a dodge of the real request from the community to get a decent example page.
❤ SOTR podcast however I'd love more if you guys show up yourself on YouTube. Do videos and show yourselves. I'd love to see such amazing human beings
I enjoyed listening to the podcast and found it useful and interesting. I would like to hear more like it.
Interesting to hear discussion about 'should we include info about title tags in the SEO starter guide.. since so many modern CMS / web things auto create this now.. and I am currently experimenting with WordPress 2024 theme, which makes it strange to remove the big title using full site editor… and move a hero banner video up to the top.. even though I have removed the page title via the FSE – hearing the podcast I checked the view source for H1 – and there is an H1 with 'Home – Site Name' – but that is NOT displayed on the front end for the end user.. maybe it is in the code and display: none..
luckily the page title does exist and schema does as well..
Perhaps there will be a starter guide that is brief and a not-so-started-bit-more-to-consider-guide with an FAQ that points to the meta-keywords not you all mentioned?
we can not understand properly in the audio conversation. Can you please use some particle examples in the video so we can easily understand what actually you want to tell?
2:31 All the views are maybe connected to all of the “SEO gurus” searching for loopholes, and picking words out of context that confirms their theories…
21:41 The Streisand effect.
Butterflies? 😂
Good
